About the IndicWiki Project

The IndicWiki Project is a prestigious initiative from the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad, dedicated to enhancing digital resources in lesser-known indigenous languages. These include Gondi, Kolami, Chenchu, Lambadi, Kaikadi (Yerukala), Koya, Nakkala, Naikdi, and Konda Kammara.

This initiative empowers native language speakers and preserves endangered languages through meaningful contributions to Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, Wiktionary, Wikisource, and other sister projects.

Internship Overview

  • Position: Indigenous Language Development Intern
  • Mode: Remote (Hybrid if needed)
  • Duration: 6-8 Weeks (May 12 – June 30, 2025)
  • Time Commitment: 15–20 hours per week
  • Stipend: Unpaid (but top 30 interns will get ₹3,000 merit awards)
  • Certification: Internship certificate from IIIT Hyderabad

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible at IndicWiki Summer Internship 2025 , you must:

  • Be a UG/PG student or a recent graduate
  • Have spoken & written fluency in at least one of the following:
    Gondi, Koya, Kolami, Chenchu, Kaikadi, Lambadi, Nakkala, Naikdi, or Konda Kammara
  • Understand basic English or Telugu for communication
  • Have basic knowledge of using the internet; Wikipedia experience is a plus (training provided)
  • Be passionate about language preservation and digital storytelling

Responsibilities Of IndicWiki Summer Internship

  • Translate and create Wikipedia articles in the above-mentioned languages
  • Document cultural insights, oral stories, and traditional knowledge
  • Collaborate with native speakers and local communities
  • Organise or support virtual workshops
  • (Optional) Work with tech interns on AI/ML tools for content translation and generation
